“Cute world” encapsulated in a space

I have always had a great longing for “my own place or space”.

“With Little Me” “With Little Me”

When I think back to the books I loved as a child, they are all “room” stories. For example “Soramame-kun’s bed”.

It's a famous picture book in Japan and this is a story about “a bed as soft as a cloud” that the main character, Soramame-kun, treasures, and he keeps it as his own special space. Such a space was a great “longing” for me as a young child. I remember reading this picture book over and over again.

I also played with Licca-chan dolls and was fascinated by “Super Dollfie” dolls during my childhood. I was drawing pictures like Super Dollfie all the time back then.

There is a doll about the same size as Barbie called “Dollfie Plus,” and you can add eyes and shave the head for the dolls. I chose “blue green” for the eyes and I fell in love with the color, and I still often use it in my work.

“Put my favorite motifs in a room”

My paintings are basically based on motifs that exist in real life. Therefore, in order to collect motifs, I sometimes go looking for them at antique markets every week.

I think my room and the world of my work are similar. I love interior design, and there was a time when I used to be into painting the furniture, building shelves, and DIY.

I love to create my favorite “space” both in my works and in the real world.
